The Divided Realms series is really heating up with this new addition and I'm anxiously awaiting the next book, which, is appropriately releasing on my birthday. Kim Richardson manages to piece together an increasingly interesting and ever evolving story that is sure to appeal to both teens and adults alike. The first book was a little stiff as I worked a bit to get immersed in the world, but the story has taken so many marvelous turns throughout this second installment - With an ending that inevitability leaves you wanting more. It's a world with magic and strife that manages to address social inequality and injustice and pose allusions to how those issues have shaped our own world. The protagonist Elena had her character fleshed out in the second book and it shows in the relationships she forms throughout the story. Some of her internal thoughts prove a smidge repetitive, but it goes towards her steadfast approach and resolute attitude. I believe Richardson has found a winning combination and look forward to what's to come. I own all the Soul Guardians books too, am on book 4 of that series and while they aren't quite as developed as these novels, they hold much of the same charm

Kim is a natural story teller. She writes as if we are sitting around a campfire, and she is speaking in a strong clear voice. She picks up the pace as the excitement builds. I look forward to the next book in the series.
