About this audiobook

The first book in the epic and bestselling series that has gripped millions.

A hero will be forged from this broken land.

As seen on Netflix and BBC around the world.

In a land torn apart by conflict, an orphan boy has come of age. Raised by the Vikings, deadly enemies of his own Saxon people, Uhtred is a fierce and skilled warrior who kneels to no-one.

Alfred – Saxon, king, man of god – fights to hold the throne of the only land still resisting the pagan northerners.

Uhtred and Alfred’s fates are tangled, soaked in blood and blackened by the flames of war. Together they will change history.

An absolute fantastic audiobook. the narrator has an excellent tone and expression for different characters. This can make or break even the best story. I have heard of Bernard Cornwell but never read any books or listened to audiobooks. I have been looking for something in this genre for a while and believe me this hits the Mark running absolutely fantastic storyline easy to get into and understand. and for an audiobook of this length good value for money. If it is historically correct or not I wouldn't know, the story intertwines with different characters, religions, houses of power and kings etc. this will not be the last of this authors books that I buy and thankfully he has quite a large library all quite reasonably priced.
