With missionary zeal Shakuntala Devi has been pursuing her lifetime objective of demystifying numbers and making them a part of every person’s daily creative energy. She believes numbers are fun; she believes anyone can enjoy numbers, specially children. To give shape to her dreams of making maths a fun activity for younger children, now she is working on setting up a maths institute in Karnataka, India.Hailing from a Brahmin family, Shakuntala Devi was initiated to maths by her grandfather and by the age of five hailed as a prodigy. She wants people to shed their phobia of maths, which tends to get communicated to children. Through her eminently readable books and highly entertaining lectures she has done much to help people get friendly with numbers. It is when maths is approached in a spirit of fun, she says, only then can we put it to its most complete use and extract the greatest mileage from it in terms of application.
