Leopold von Sacher-Masoch

Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, born in Lviv, what is now Ukraine, was a prominent Austro-Hungarian writer and thinker. Sacher-Masoch is considered one of the pioneers in exploring themes of submission and sadomasochism in literature. His fame is largely due to the scandal that accompanied the publication of some of his novels, particularly "Venus in Furs," and for his surname Masoch being the inspiration for the term masochism.
