Martha Evans is a senior lecturer at the Centre for Film and Media Studies at the University of Cape Town, specialising in the history of the media. She has an MA in creative writing and a PhD in media studies from UCT, and she has worked as a writer, editor, copywriter and mass communication strategist. She has published poetry in New Contrast and other publications, has written articles for various newspapers and magazines, and was the winner of the Sunday Independent travel writing competition in 2008. Her first book was Broadcasting the End of Apartheid: Television and the Birth of the New South Africa, published in 2014.
