L. K. Madigan was born Lisa Kay Wolfson in Portland, Oregon in 1963. Before becoming a writer, she worked at Warner Bros. Records. She wrote Flash Burnout, which won the 2010 William C. Morris Award, and The Mermaid's Mirror. She was a 20-year breast cancer survivor. She died from pancreatic cancer on February 23, 2011 at the age of 47.
