Andrea Carter

Andrea Carter was born in a small town in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. As a child, she broke into a neighbour's house just to feel the keys of their typewriter and maybe that should have been a clue. But she's a slow starter. Four children and decades later, she completed her first novel, South of Centre, which also takes place in Chile. Hardbed Hotel is her second novel, and was inspired by the beauty of Santiago's General Cemetery and by subsequent interviews with three of its women caretakers. Married to a Chilean from the north, she and her family spent several years living a sort of nomadic life in Bolivia, Spain and Chile. They now live in Santiago, Chile.
