This book is a true triumph of the human condition as it relates to the love we have for family, and brilliantly documents the lengths that we will go through to protect our loved ones. The author's prose is informative and tragic without being morose and overwhelming. The author doesn't attempt to force her pain and trauma onto the reader; instead, she skillfully guides the reader through her everyday life of dealing with the issue of mental illness in someone she would give her very life for.

This is a great book that I think anyone who knows someone with mental illness (especially schizophrenia) or addiction issues should read. It’s an amazing true story of a mother’s neverending love for her children. Grab your tissues…you’ll definitely need them!

As someone with bipolar disorder and the sibling of a brother with schizoaffective disorder, this book was enlightening, infuriating (at current laws and a failed healthcare system), and encouraging. I hope more people in my life (family, friends, neighbors, health care providers) will read this book, because I know I'll be talking about it often from now on!
