About this ebook

In this sequel to The Lost Gate, bestselling author Orson Scott Card continues his fantastic tale of the Mages of Westil who live in exile on Earth in The Gate Thief, a novel of the Mither Mages.

Here on Earth, Danny North is still in high school, yet he holds in his heart and mind all the stolen outselves of thirteen centuries of gatemages. The Families still want to kill him if they can't control him...and they can't control him. He is far too powerful.

And on Westil, Wad is now nearly powerless—he lost everything to Danny in their struggle. Even if he can survive the revenge of his enemies, he still must somehow make peace with the Gatemage Daniel North.

For when Danny took that power from Loki, he also took the responsibility for the Great Gates. And when he comes face-to-face with the mages who call themselves Bel and Ishtoreth, he will come to understand just why Loki closed the gates all those centuries ago.

To start this off I really enjoyed the first book and the general direction that it was heading. I bought this immediately after reading the first and the most of the way through the book I really enjoyed it. And then it ended very sudden and not satisfying at all. Then spends a god awful amount of time explaining why he did that. I'll sum it up for you here... I got lazy and wanted it to be done and I stead of making a real ending and making the book later than it already was I'm just going to complain.

Mainly because it ends right as it is getting interesting. I understand that the complexities of interacting with other mages and cultures is apparently not what Card is interested in, but instead of dealing with the cultures and competitions for power that served him so well in the Ender's and Shadow books, he limits himself to a near re-telling of the first story. It is an enjoyable fast paced read, but the conclusion is disappointing, and in the long run, almost requires the next book to be properly judged.

OSC captivates me with every book, and this was no exception. He creates the character of a very powerful, very strong-willed hormonal teenager flawlessly, and I flew through the book. The end felt a little odd, though. It just sort of.. stopped. Oh well. Can't wait for book 3!
