I had read this book for school as a young child. Having grown with a red blood hound as my best friend and "brother" this book holds a special place in my heart. This is now my third read, and am still as drawn in now as the first time. Read this book, understand it, and allow yourself to feel the puppy love that all should. Spend your time in nature with your dog(s), experience the heartfelt joy and pain, the memories that only gods true love can bring.

Felt like I was there every step of the way. Felt Joy and sadness. I hold this book very near and dear to me because I have had many dogs. All but one of them were strays, and three of them died. One that died was the father to the rest, and the other two got ran over. The other three might still be alive, but I just don't know. Two were close brothers and were sweet. We had to give them to an animal shelter because they were scratching and loosing fur. The other one was my first and only sister. Her name was Ginger and we only had her for a year. We had to give her to an animal shelter because she bit my brother. ( Though she is really sweet.) I was broken-hearted and this book reminded me of her and I couldn't keep from crying. I just wish there were more dogs like Old Dan, Little Ann and Rocky. Rocky is the first dog I mentioned and was the first dog I've ever known. He was around my age too. ( Read this book away from people if u don't like crying in front of anyone.)

Just hearing the title brings back memories. My 3rd grade teacher and her husband, when he would visit, would read this to the class. Near the end, there wasn't a dry eye from what I remember and watching the movie definitely didn't help with our tears. This story will definitely touch your heart and make you love your pets even more than you already do.
