Nicol le Roux verhuis Kaap toe waar hy mede-direkteur word van ’n fondsbestuurmaatskappy. Die laaste mens wat hy verwag om in die Kaap raak te loop, is Lien, sy nuwe swaer se suster. Sy is een van daardie ‘moderne’ vroue wat alles self wil doen en geen hulp van ’n man wil hê nie. Maar nou is al twee in die Kaap en beide van hulle kom agter soms het jy tog hulp nodig, al is dit uit die laaste oord waar jy dit vandaan wil hê.

Elsa Winckler is ’n internasionaal gerekende romanseskrywer met talle boeke op haar kerfstok. Sy kom uit ’n agtergrond in opvoedkunde, en is op 40 weer terug universiteit toe om ’n Honneurs en MPhil te voltooi. Haar man is haar studenteliefde en na 44 jaar saam, drie interessante kinders en ’n kroos kleinkinders, maak hy nog altyd haar knieë lam, soos dit ’n goeie held betaam. Kenmerkend van Winckler se werk is haar onafhanklike, hardekwas heldinne, wat sy heerlik afspeel teen sterk maar sensitiewe helde.
