Alors qu'elle se tient d'ordinaire prudemment à l'écart des hommes, Sabrina se surprend à accepter l'invitation à dîner de Javier D'Alessandro, un séduisant homme d'affaires argentin de passage à Londres, qu'elle a rencontré quelques jours plus tôt à l'agence de voyage qu'elle dirige. Il faut dire que Javier est le plus bel homme qu'elle ait jamais vu... Mais Sabrina tombe des nues lorsque, à la fin du dîner, il lui propose de l'épouser ! Bien sûr, il ne prétend pas l'aimer : ce mariage serait pour lui le moyen d'adopter plus facilement sa nièce Angelina, désormais orpheline. D'abord réticente, Sabrina finit par dire oui. Par compassion pour la fillette, seule au monde, mais aussi parce que Javier est loin de la laisser indifférente...
