It follows the adventure of Elizabeth Ann, an orphan who leaves a privileged urban lifestyle with her cousin to live with the Putney's on a Vermont farm. It is a fascinating novel of the period and still an interesting read for adults and children today. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
