About this ebook

Trouble reaches out to Lady Adelaide from across the oceans.

Lady Adelaide Azalea Margaret de Morville, Mrs. Hugh Becket, English peer and British intelligence agent, receives an unexpected letter from her dear friend Isa Hass in the Cape Colony, which sends her dashing to Cape Town to confirm her suspicions about Isa and the death of Adele’s husband, three years ago.

Spy master William Melville insists that Daniel Bannister, Lord Leighton, accompany her. Adele complies, even though she resents Leighton’s company, for their nascent relationship ran aground some weeks before.

Adele’s return to Cape Town elicits memories both bitter and sweet, and unlocks the secrets surrounding her friend Isa, provoking a violent and deadly response from the shadowy figures who resent that exposure…

What a spellbinding rollercoaster! I was completely captivated with surprises, tender moments and edge-of-my-seat excitement all packed into this novelette. This is a gut-wrenching story told in such a way that we feel Adele's trials and tribulations ten-fold! I empathise with Adele and can see how this latest crisis will build her fortitude for the challenges to come in service to King and country. I love each story of Adele's development and experiences as an agent working for the British government. This book involves a slightly more personal approach to Adele's life as an agent when she visits her friend Isa, in Cape Town. I'm enthusiastically looking forward to reading the next instalment. I highly recommend this series and am enjoying the unfolding journey of Adele's life as an agent. Definitely a series to be read in order, from the start, to appreciate how much Adele has changed and grown into her role as well as the introductions to the characters around her.

I always try not to give spoilers and it's very hard not to with this story. I can say that I found this book, in the series, to be the most adventurous, puzzling, and OMG NO, of all. It left me with feelings of anguish and tears. Our heroine is at her best in picking up the clues and using her brilliant mind to come up with the answers, but even she cannot see the future. The author gives us such detailed information, that she puts the readers right there in the story, looking over Adelaide's shoulder. Be sure to read this moving story and if you haven't read the series, I highly recommend you do.
