I have found this an excellent window into the life and times of Tom Dibdin and the characters he came across in his life from being an apprentice in Sarah Baker's Theatre to his time at the Theatres Royal. His narration of the happenings in his life are delivered to the reader as if in conversation with a person of his time. Candor and gossip bring his era to life and allow a glimpse back through 200 years for which I am most grateful.
