DIVBuddha (563–483 BCE), born Prince Siddhartha Gautama, is the key figure in the Buddhist religion. At the age of twenty-nine, he renounced his noble birth and became an ascetic after encountering suffering for the first time outside of his palace walls. By embracing moderation and dedicated meditation, Buddha was able to achieve enlightenment, the road to which he spent the rest of his life preaching to others./div
