This being the second Sherlock Holmes story Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote, it continues to lay the ground work of the character that Holmes will go on to become. While the prior adventure laid out his personality, this one digs a bit deeper into his quirks and his methods, specifically the way his deductions are made. Similarly, it continues to provide depth and background to Watson's story, who comes to meet his future wife in this book. I look forward to reading additional Sherlock Holmes stories in the near future.
