...for a Scarlett Thomas book, I mean :-). The story is fairly fast-paced, and although it shares a few concepts with earlier books, it's not nearly as hard to read. Or maybe I've just gotten used to her style. Not sure about the sex scenes though. All this gratuitious "sexing", as Holly would call it, looks at first like it's just randomly strewn across the chapters. Later on, it's mostly destructive. Well, the whole book is. No happy ending. But that's not what we expect from Thomas anyway, right?

Scarlett Thomas was born in London in 1972. Her other novels include Bright Young Things, PopCo, The End of Mr.Y which was longlisted for the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction 2007, and Our Tragic Universe. She teaches creative writing at the University of Kent.
