In recent years, imperial history has experienced a newfound vigour, dynamism and diversity. Stephen Howe is Professor of the History and Cultures of Colonialism at the University of Bristol. His previous books include Anticolonialism in British Politics (1993); Afrocentrism (1998); Ireland and Empire (2000) and Empire: a Very Short Introduction (2002). He is also co-editor of the Journal of Imperial and Commonwealth History.
