Though it wasn't so simple to read thru some of the old English, I still was captivated by the such detail oriented and captivating story telling ability. As for the movie, rarely do you see a book copied to screen be worthy of the authors imagination. Strangely, nearly nothing but the base story being taken from this book, the movie is actually more entertaining.

While undoubtedly a classic, and obviously a product of the times, it has aged exceptionally poorly and now stands as a distracted, muddled, and mildly sexist and racist novella. The quality lies within the lore itself, but is lacking in the actual work.

Irving was a unique writer of his time, my only problem while reading this was that he was very detailed and sidetracked into it very easily. It made it hard for me to stay concentrated. But thats very typical of a writer from that time. Very good!
