About this eBook

A delightful new western romance and New York Times bestseller from the author of Redeeming Love.

New York Times bestselling author Francine Rivers returns to the California frontier in this sweeping, romantic tale of a displaced New England suffragette, a former Union soldier disinherited by his Southern family, and the town they join forces to save.

1875. When Kathryn Walsh arrives in tiny Calvada, a mining town nestled in the Sierra Nevadas, falling in love is the farthest thing from her mind. Banished from Boston by her wealthy stepfather, she has come to claim an inheritance from the uncle she never knew: a defunct newspaper office on a main street overflowing with brothels and saloons, and a seemingly worthless mine. Moved by the oppression of the local miners and their families, Kathryn decides to relaunch her uncle’s newspaper―and then finds herself in the middle of a maelstrom, pitted against Calvada’s most powerful men. But Kathryn intends to continue to say―and publish―whatever she pleases, especially when she knows she’s right.

Matthias Beck, owner of a local saloon and hotel, has a special interest in the new lady in town. He instantly recognizes C. T. Walsh’s same tenacity in the beautiful and outspoken redhead―and knows all too well how dangerous that family trait can be. While Kathryn may be right about Calvada’s problems, her righteousness could also get her killed. But when the handsome hotelier keeps finding himself on the same side of the issues as the opinionated Miss Walsh, Matthias’s restless search for purpose becomes all about answering the call of his heart.

Everyone may be looking to strike it rich in this lawless boomtown, but it’s a love more precious than gold that will ultimately save them all.

  • Engrossing plot that’s perfect for fans of Christian romance
  • Western historical fiction set during the Gold Rush
  • Interwoven with themes of compassion and redemption

It was meh. I soooo wanted to love it. I've read Francine Rivers' books for over a decade. I was excited to hear this was coming out after not getting anything new from her in awhile. I've loved every book of hers I've picked up but this one was just...meh. Following great stories like Redeeming Love and the Mark of the Lion series, I'll admit I had high expectations. This book felt very cookie cutter. I could guess the plot before I'd read a third of the novel, which is something I've never been able to do with her writing. The beauty of Francine Rivers is she has a rare talent for making you care about a character and bringing you closer to God through her storytelling. This book did neither of those things for me. This book felt basic. If you like lighthearted, easy reads that feel like a Hallmark movie, this will do nicely. If you want something deeper, I suggest literally any of her other books.

Francine Rivers is one one of my absolute favorite authors. I love everything she has written. She is tops. The Lady’s Mine is right up there with the best. I could not put it down. She describes her characters and scenes so vividly that you have no trouble picturing it in your mind as if you were right there. There are very few books that I will read a second time but Rivers books are worth a second read. There is so much to this book that I can’t just pick out a scene or happening, you must read it for yourself. You will certainly find out what I am speaking of. If I could give it more than 5 stars , I would…..I was gifted a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and I am happy to leave a review.
