Paula Schwartz wrote and published more than two dozen Regency romances, writing as Elizabeth Mansfield. Under various pseudonyms, she also wrote an American immigrant family saga, A Morning Moon (as Paula Reibel), and two American history romances, To Spite the Devil (as Paula Jonas) and Rachel’s Passage (as Paula Reid). Paula Schwartz was born in the Bronx and went to Hunter College. She started teaching drama and English as a junior high school teacher, then a high school teacher, and finally a college teacher. She was married and had a son and a daughter. She wrote plays and humor pieces before starting her career as a novelist, and shortly thereafter, in 1973, she began writing full time.
