Sometime in the late 1950s, on the steps of an unknown church, somebody takes a black and white photograph of an assembly of boys making their first communions. Above the heads of eight of the boys, who are all fated to die within the next twenty years, are small carefully ascribed Xs. When the picture is found more than fifty years years later in an abandoned steamer trunk purchased at a neighborhood auction, the pursuit for an answer to the mystery of those marks begins. The First Communion Murders is the story of that search.

Mike Robertson, now resigned to the routine of retirement, continues to entertain the notion that he may have literary endowments, a compulsion he had pursued over the past decade with the production and the publication of various literary projects. His most recent effort, a novel entitled The First Communion Murders, is his seventh book, joining three collections of shorts stories, Casting Shadows, Parts of a Past, and These Memories Clear, three volumes of literary entertainments entitled The Smart Aleck Chronicles, and a barely recalled novel entitled Gone and Back. For reasons unknown, Mike Robertson lives in Ottawa, Canada.
