About this eBook

In Victorian England, a stranger on a train may rescue a young woman from a marriage she dreads—all due to a misunderstanding . . .

Shortlisted for a 2018 RoNA Award

After losing both parents, Ianthe Holt is being dragged by her brother to the wilds of Yorkshire—and pressured to accept a proposal from an ancient baronet to whom he owes money. Every attempt Ianthe has made to avoid the man’s off-putting attention, from acting distant to dressing in unflattering clothes, has failed. As she tries desperately to argue her case, her brother simply advises her to grit her teeth and soon enough she’ll be a rich widow.

Then the handsome gentleman who’d been dozing next to them in the train carriage overhears and chastises her sharply for what seems to him her mercenary scheme. Ianthe’s protestations do her no good—and she is only more flabbergasted when he proposes that she marry him instead! But the attractive shipbuilder has his own reasons for doing so—and the baronet is not taking rejection well . . .

The Convenient Felstone Marriage is number one in the Whitby Weddings series by author Jenni Fletcher. I had actually read book two of this series first, Captain Amberton's Inherited Bride and loved it. So I was very excited to see that two characters that had caught my eye in that previous book had their own story! Robert Felstone is very good at business. A self made man who built himself up to become a wealthy shipping magnate. Robert was a likable character from the start and as this story progressed I absolutely fell for him! Ianthe Holt is trying to escape from a mistake from her past... So she has taken to dressing in drab clothes and fading into the background. But beneath the facade is a vibrant women if only she'd let go of the past. As with all of Jenni Fletcher's books, it's obvious from the start she does a lot of research. Her writing draws you in and makes you want to learn more of the time period and the area. Whitby where this story and this entire series is set in, is rich in history and I absolutely loved reading about the shipyards and the lifeboat rescue. I loved Robert and Ianthe's story and so happy that they finally were able to move on from both of their pasts to get their HEA! This story also had some wonderful and interesting secondary characters that added to the suspense and enjoyment of this book. This was a great start to this series and I'm looking forward to returning to Whitby when book number three in this series is released. Highly recommend the book and series!
