O ovoj e-knjizi

Tales of my Landlord is a series of novels by Sir Walter Scott that form a subset of the Waverley Novels. Of these novels, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor have been the most successful and Old Mortality is considered by modern critics to be among Scott's best work. They were so called, because they were supposed to be tales collected from the fictional landlord of the Wallace Inn at Gandercleugh. This is gone into in great depth in the introduction to The Black Dwarf. They were supposed to reflect aspects of Scottish regional life. Table of Contents: OLD MORTALITY BLACK DWARF THE HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN THE BRIDE OF LAMMERMOOR A LEGEND OF MONTROSE COUNT ROBERT OF PARIS CASTLE DANGEROUS Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright and poet. He was the first modern English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor.

O autoru

Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet, FRSE (1771–1832) was a towering figure in the realm of historical fiction, known predominantly for his prowess in constructing romanticized portrayals of Scottish historical narratives and local folklore. Born in Edinburgh, Scott was not just a novelist but a historian, poet, and advocate by profession, which greatly influenced his literary works. His foray into writing saw great successes with the publication of the Waverley Novels—a series to which 'Tales of My Landlord' (1816) belongs. This particular collection lies within the fourth series of the novels and is appreciated for its intricate depictions of Scottish society and history, encapsulated through Scott's adept storytelling and rich characterizations. It showcases his signature approach to merging factual history with imaginative embellishments. 'Tales of My Landlord' was initially published anonymously, as Scott often did with his novels, to ensure that his work was judged by its own merits rather than the fame of its author. Scott's literary style is marked by his use of vernacular language alongside intense narrative prowess, and he is credited with popularizing the historical novel as a literary genre. His works have had a monumental influence on later writers and are considered seminal to the formation of a Scottish cultural identity. His contributions to literature have immortalized him as one of the great literary figures of the 19th century. (Sutherland, 1995; Duncan, 2007)
