Anyone who knows Chief of Detectives, Mort Grant, knows that family is everything to him. In the midst of a gang war, he receives a phone call … his grand-daughter, Hadley, has been kidnapped. The worst part is that she was taken by his own daughter, Allie who is also Hadley’s aunt. Because of Allie’s lawlessness, the family has dropped all contact with her. Now she’s getting her payback. But she loves the little girl and won’t be in any danger .. at least from her. Allie is a cold-hearted woman who happens to be head of one of the largest criminal enterprises in the world. Desperate to find his grand-daughter, he turns to the vigilante called The Fixer. Even though Allie has lots and lots of money plus connections with the worst of the worst, The Fixer has a razor sharp mind and will do whatever it takes to bring Hadley back to her family safely. This is a solid written thriller. Lots of action, lots of danger, all the characters are believable. The Fixer, even though she’s wanted by the FBI, does not acknowledge any lines or limits. The only person who knows her identity is Mort Grant. Being a law officer, he knows he is also committing a crime by keeping her identity secret. I’ve been fortunate to read the first few books in this series. As always, it pays if readers start at the beginning. There are lots of nuances that may be missed by skipping around. That being said, this can be read as a stand-alone. Even though there are some references to things that have happened in previous books. Many thanks to the author / Random House Publishing Group – Alibi / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
