About this ebook

Soon to be a major motion picture from Paramount Pictures starring John Lithgow, Jason Clarke, and Amy Seimetz! King's iconic, beloved classic is 'so beautifully paced that you cannot help but be pulled in' Guardian

'SOMETIMES...DEAD IS BETTER'

The house looked right, felt right to Dr Louis Creed.

Rambling, old, unsmart and comfortable. A place where the family could settle; the children grow and play and explore. The rolling hills and meadows of Maine seemed a world away from the fume-choked dangers of Chicago.

Only the occasional big truck out on the two-lane highway, grinding up through the gears, hammering down the long gradients, growled out an intrusive threat.

But behind the house and far away from the road: that was safe. Just a carefully cleared path up into the woods where generations of local children have processed with the solemn innocence of the young, taking with them their dear departed pets for burial.

A sad place maybe, but safe. Surely a safe place. Not a place to seep into your dreams, to wake you, sweating with fear and foreboding.

'King can make the flesh creep half a world away' - The Times
'So beautifully paced that you cannot help but be pulled in' - Guardian
'The most frightening novel Stephen King has ever written' - Publisher's Weekly
'Wild, powerful, disturbing' - Washington Post Book Review

This was my first horror genre book. Below is my experience and review 1: The overall story is actually good. 2: Plot takes a while to build up. I felt it a bit slow and long. In my opinion at least 60-70 pages could have been reduced. 3: You can feel the horror vibes only if you are good at comprehending english (I don't know if there are any translated copies). Not only comprehend, you will have to imagine and create the scenes in your mind. If you do that, it can give you nightmares. If you just skim through the book, it will certainly not create any impact. !! SPOILER ALERT !! 4: Funny thing is Pet Cemetery has very little to do with the story, it is something beyond the pet cemetery that is the center of the story. 5: Some people may find this boring because actual horror starts at around 65% of the book and we are used to Hollywood horror movies which usually bring horror scenes within 15-20 mins of screen time.

Ok, let's start with, why on god's green one would anyone choose to buy a house that close to a cemetery, pet or otherwise. Considering I don't like horror stories, either written or on film, this book had me gripped from the start. When I say horror story, I mean this book is literally terrifying and I made the mistake of reading it at night, in bed, on my own!!! I actually had nightmares which is something I haven't had since I was a child.

Excellent book, not too lengthy, extremely well-paced writing. The first part of the book is great set-up for the tragedy ridden second half. It's the worst horror imaginable, watching someone simply go mad from grief, then just being stuck reading through as more and more horror unfolds. The dread is insane. Definitely a favourite.
