I’ve always been drawn to fairytales and nursery rhymes. Before I could even read them to myself, I wore out a few copies of Mother Goose. I had them read to me so often that I could “read” the tales. Even at that age I was creating twists in the story as I tried to recite them from memory.
Cinderella being my second fairytale retelling, I had a better idea of what to expect. But then there was the added pressure of it being Cinderella. Everyone knows the story! There has to be at least a half dozen movies in recent years redoing the tale. So what was there for me to do differently and still have the original story. Oh yeah, the Grimm’s version of Cinderella is much darker than the Disney version. Frankly, it’s a little too gory for me. So my version was certainly unique.
So what did I do differently? Well first off, Cinderella is Kegan. That’s right, I flipped genders. The magical help takes on a different shape, too. So if you love Cinderella, and you like to read about hot guys, rodeos and cowboys. Then you should give Spurred On a read. Hope you have as much fun reading it as I had writing it.
