Considered by contemporary critics to be Lawrence’s greatest achievement, Sons and Lovers tells the tale of Paul Morel, a young man and aspiring artist who grows up under his mother’s wing. But as Paul matures and wants to forge a path for himself and perhaps find love, he always finds himself inexorably drawn back to his mother. He is forced to make a difficult decision – whether to strike out on his own and do what he truly desires, or to stay by his mother’s side instead.
