It is an ostensibly simple story of a weaver that is famous for its strong sense of realism and its precocious treatment of issues ranging from religion to industrialism. A wonderful example of Elliot's masterful writing, "Silas Marner" is highly recommended for all lovers of English literature. Mary Ann Evans (1819 - 1880), commonly known by her pseudonym 'George Eliot', was an English novelist who is considered to be one of the most accomplished writers of the Victorian era.
