The child does NOT refuse! It is not a choice. They are physically incapable of speech in select situations, even though they would love to speak.

The part about selective mutism, the topic of this book, is just a few pages and give a very basic summary of what it is. 80% of the book is generic and NOT about the topic! Bit of a joke.

Book basically has nothing about SM. Maybe 2 pages about it.
