Etoile montante de DC Comics, Scott Snyder débute sa carrière en 2006 en tant qu'écrivain avec le recueil de nouvelle Voodoo Heart. Il écrit quelques épisodes pour Marvel, dont la mini-série Iron Man : Noir, puis débute chez DC Vertigo avec American Vampire, série co-écrite avec le romancier Stephen King et lauréate des prestigieux Eisner et Harvey Award de la Meilleure Nouvelle Série 2011. Il reprend ensuite les rennes de Detective Comics et offre avec Kyle Higgins une mini-série consacrée aux ancêtres de Bruce Wayne, Gates of Gotham. Son travail sur Detective Comics est à la fois acclamé par la critique et le public et lui ouvre les portes de la toute nouvelle série Batman, avec Greg Capullo, débutée en septembre 2011.
