मैं अपने तीसरे कहानी-संग्रह की दुनिया में आपका स्वागत करता हूँ। कुछ कहानियाँ शब्दों से ही नहीं, स्वभाव से भी बड़ी होती हैं और जीवन के एक पूरे के पूरे दौर की व्याख्या कर जाती हैं। ऐसी ही कहानियां 'संक्षिप्त' में संकलित हैं। ये सारी कहानियाँ मेरी ज़िंदगी का झूठा-सच हैं, मतलब अनुभूतियों से सच और पात्रों से झूठ। इन्हें मैंने इतने करीब से जिया है कि इनपर मेरा एक सौ एक प्रतिशत अधिकार है। मैं इन्ही कहानियों पर उपन्यास बनाने की कोशिश कर रहा हूँ जो एक-एक करके आपके सामने आएंगी। एक-दो कहानियाँ पुरानी हैं और शेष कहानियाँ नयी हैं। इनके कथ्य, इनकी शैली, इनके शब्दों में वो सारे परिवर्तन परिलक्षित होते हैं जो मुझमें जीवन के इस कठिन दौर में चलते-चलते आए थे। ये कहानियाँ ज़्यादातर प्रेम-कहानियाँ हैं और अगर कुछ और भी है तो उसका भी आधार प्रेम ही है।
