This story is the first one in this author’s new series. Jack Daniels is a Navy SEAL who was badly injured and burned in his last mission when an IED exploded near him. His K-9 dog saved his life, but was also injured. Once Jack returned home to heal, he was finally able to get his retired dog Dakota as well. One night he gets a call meant for someone else, but the voice of the woman woke up something in him . When he finds Nichole Masters, a potter, he’s smitten. But he is returning to his team and his past experience in love leaves no space for a permanent relationship. A plan to keep it light was agreed upon, neither expecting for deep feelings to develop. But things come to an abrupt stop when Jack receives devastating news and his life spins out of control. Add to that an ex abusive boyfriend, a man-child of a brother, and a vicious competitor threaten Nichole and you know you have a story that will keep you wondering what will happen next.. It was a good beginning to the series. You’ll have a few laughs with Jack’s grandmother and her friends and who doesn’t love a story with dogs. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Carina Press. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This author was new to me, but I thought this was a good read, it read like a true to life situation, although Jack Daniels for the lead character was quite funny, and interesting name, I really enjoyed it. Good reading for a rainy day.

Loved this book! This is a great start to a new series that already has me looking forward to the next book in the series. Jack is a SEAL recovering from a debilitating injury when he meets Nichole, a potter and new puppy mom. Her puppy is somewhat behaviorally challenged, and Jacks offers to help when he rescues her from the puppy running circles around her. I loved how Nichole and Jack's relationship developed - it was sweet, fun, and sexy. Their story was engaging and entertaining. The author tackled a tough topic with sensitivity and respect. I only pray that our injured military get the benefit of the trained K-9s they need. If you are a fan of the genre, you will love this book. While it is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel. The author is on my must read authors' list.
