De auteurs zien de bijbelse geschriften als het Woord van God, die zichzelf openbaart in de geschiedenis. Daarom is gekozen voor een heilshistorisch perspectief, waarmee de nieuwtestamentische boodschap ook vandaag nog klinkt.
