At the age of thirteen the husky Travis Singer strikes out to make a living. Life on the cattle ranch seems to be his calling. Travis must choose which side he will serve, but sometimes he finds he must ride with the enemy to best serve the Confederacy. Travis also must choose between Sara and Susan.
