Seen as a literary figure, Jacob's development to become Israel is traced along the biblical narrative. With brief excursions to the question of the historical value of this figure and to its broad reception Jacob is portrayed as a person who is full of life and who tries to master with God's help whatever life offers him.

Renate Andrea Klein, Dr., Jahrgang 1969, promovierte 2002 in Hamburg. Sie lebt in Sibiu/Rumänien und ist zur Zeit als Lektorin für Altes Testament am Departement Evangelische Theologie der Lucian-Blaga-Universität Sibiu tätig.
