About this eBook

The pinnacle of human civilization has come and gone, leaving only ruins in its wake. Society and science now struggle to rebuild, rediscovering scraps of knowledge from powerful ancient artifacts that defy comprehension. These relics of the “Old World” can make the fortunes of those who find them—if ancient security systems and rogue bioweapons don’t kill the relic hunters first.

Akira, a young street orphan, sets out to become one such hunter to escape his brutal life in the slums. Untrained, malnourished, and poorly armed, Akira would be lucky to make it back from the ruins alive—until an encounter with Alpha, a mysterious, ghostly woman, changes his fate forever. Alpha needs a hunter, and she’s willing to train Akira to get one. Will her support be enough to help a penniless kid from the slums climb to the top of a crushing and merciless world?

Pros: Sci-Fi. Well written, no translation errors. The mechanical designs for the weapons, enemies and other gear are based in reality and really ground the story as a possible distant future. The characters are distinct and have their own goals and motivations which they are driven by- they aren't stupid or excessively trope-y. The world is full of mysteries to be discovered and the author drip feeds us answers so that the more we know, the more we learn that we still need to discover. Action scenes are satisfying and intense. ----------------------- Cons: There is a bit too much talk about the sex appeal of various women in the story. The way they dress/ act is justified within the world, but the author spends too much time describing it, especially when it influences the main character very little. The story is a bit slow paced in terms of overall plot, but each part contains its own satisfying arc that pushes the overall storyline slowly forward. ----------- Overall: Excellent story
