This was a really good story from a new to me author. Just like most women out there, I’ve had that moment in my life where I ‘dreamed the dream’, ‘wished the wish’ when it came to my brother’s best friend. I absolutely adore reading this genre and seeing how it could come to fruition in fiction. So, I understand how Jessie felt seeing her high school hot crush hooking up with her friends and being ignored by him. It hurt terribly, and that hurt and dismissal turned into dislike and hatred. Feelings that never seemed to wane over the years as Shawn continued to be a self-absorbed douche. But, Shawn hasn’t had the easiest of times. He’s wandering rather aimlessly through his life and really, he needs direction and structure. Now, after years of fruitless endeavors he’s finally found a job he enjoys, but having just moved to the area, he’s homeless and crashing on a friend’s couch. When the chance comes to sublet his sister, Talia’s, room in the apartment she shares with Jessie, he jumps at it, thinking that everything is okay. Jessie is unaware of Shawn’s imminent arrival and gets the fright of her life when he mistakenly lands in her bed, while she is sleeping. This could go from bad to worse, but Jessie discovers a different size to Shawn. One she can’t resist for long and soon they are spending every spare moment together. They’re hot and heavy with the whole summer ahead of them. These two were very convincing from the start. The chemistry was there from the moment they met again, and even when they were trying not to fall for each other, it was so obvious they couldn’t help doing just that. But what happens when summer is over? I really enjoyed this book. Shawn was so different from the usual hero. He’s not rich or famous. In fact, he’s just a regular guy who’s not always made the best decisions in life. He’s sweet and caring. He might not have much experience in the boyfriend/ relationship department but he’ll do his best for his girl. Until Talia comes back into the picture. Will she embrace their being together? Up until this moment, I’d liked Talia, even though she wasn’t in the story much, she’s a side character, but for all she was Jessie’s best friend, she had a very selfish side to her and she let it out when she discovered what had been going on. Jessie has always felt insecure and inadequate next to Talia and this just makes her spiral back into a bad place. Shawn’s reaction isn’t much better and it all implodes badly. Is this the end or will they find a way back to each other? Grab your copy and find out.

Talia and Jessie have friends since grade school. When they decide to move from their small town to the “big” city, they find it very different and more expensive than they ever imagined. Together, they rent a tiny apartment in NYC. When Talia leaves for the summer with her dance company, they sublet Talia’s room so rent is covered. Until their renter falls through... Shawn needs a place to stay. He can’t take another night on the broken down couch. When his sister contacts him with a solution to all their problems, he gladly accepts. Shawn, plagued by bad choices, really wants to prove himself and be successful at the brewery. So he packs his bag and heads to Talia’s, hoping for a peaceful night’s sleep. That is until he slides into the wrong bed..... Shawn remembers Jessie as a glasses wearing, nerdy type. He definitely doesn’t remember her as the stunning woman he’s just slid into bed with. On the other hand, Jessie remembers Shawn’s hooking up ways! But she has to admit he’s definitely HOT now! Although Jessie’s not pleased with Talia, she and Shawn agree to be “friends” since they’ll be living together for the summer. When one kiss leads to more, they decide to enjoy themselves until Talia comes home. But will Talia be so accepting? I loved that the “Alpha male” in this story was kind of broken. I liked the he was REAL! Shawn made poor decisions, as we all do. But he truly wanted to be successful, trustworthy, and loved. Very relatable! I liked how Jessie brought out the best in Shawn and fueled his desire to BE better, not only for her but for himself as well. I enjoyed Shawn’s encouragement of Jessie too. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

When Jessie's roommate goes overseas for the summer efforts to find a paying roommate fail. Until her roommate comes through at zero hour with just the right roomie. Her brother Shawn. He arrives in the middle of the night and crawls into bed only to find he's got the wrong room and wakes Jess up and she gets the shock of her life. He was her high school crush, years ago. Jessie is the quiet, bookworm type who keeps to herself and prefers to be unnoticed, yet she wants to date. She had no idea Shawn was her new roommate until she gets a text from his sister the following morning. Talia also warns her off of Shawn and does the same thing to Shawn. Talia is a bit much. Shawn has moved to NY to start a new job, transferred from New Mexico, he works for a microbrewery that is expanding. It's important to him that he does well at this job. Shawn doesn't have the best history with his family about jobs, college etc. His backstory unfolds throughout the book. . Things seem to proceed naturally with these two, they get along, are attracted to each other even though they are both wary because of Talia. I loved watching these two grow throughout the story, despite the looming end date, Shawn got Jessie to step out of the box and Jess helped him see himself through her eyes. Talia comes home earlier than planned and blows her mind because she knows they are together. Talia was the queen of nasty. She threw Jessie back lightyears and Shawn running for his life. We watch to see what happens with Shawn and Jessie. Talia apologizes but too little to late for me. This book had a great plot and real depth of character. I hope to see more of the Red Hook Brewery coming from Rebecca! *arc from NetGalley and Entangled for an honest review*
