Following an explanation of the basic concepts of quantum optics, with particular reference to the character of light waves and particles, the function of the laser is described in detail, this description being concerned mainly with the coherent properties of radiated light. There then follow a few important examples of the different uses to which the laser can be put. Herr Haken: Man kann tatsachlich die einzelnen Terme relativ einfach deuten. Hierzu betrachten wir die zeitliche Anderung der Zahl der Pho tonen der Sortej. Nach der Einstein'schen Hypothese ist bei der induzier ten Emission die Zahl der pro Sekunde emittierten Photonen proportional der Zahl der schon vorhandenen Photonen nj und proportional zur Zahl der angeregten Atome, N - Die Zuwachsrate lautet also GN nj' wobei G j 2 j 2 ein konstanter Faktor ist.
