About this eBook

This book aims to develop pragmatics understanding in accordance with the teaching and learning process of English as foreign language relates to the necessity for real communication. Pragmatics and its area of study, like speech acts, politeness, the face wants, the negative and positive face, and implicature should be implemented in the foreign language learning activities for gaining pragmatic competence. This can be done through comprehending that teaching pragmatic becomes an integral part of learning, identifying teaching techniques used to insert pragmatic competence, and implementing it in the teaching and learning activities. The expectation is that this book will be beneficial for English language teachers in general and prospectus teachers who are currently studying in English teacher training institutions.

About the author

Ive Emaliana is an English
lecturer in Universitas Brawijaya,
Malang, East Java. She earned
her undergraduate (2007) and
graduate (2012) degrees in
English Language Teaching from State University of Malang. She is currently taking her doctoral degree in the same university. She taught secondary schools for five years and has been teaching English for Specific Purposes since 2007. Her teaching and research interest include pragmatics, reading and writing skills, and language teaching methodology. She wrote books on Pragmatics and Material Development. Her papers were published in some edited books and conference proceedings. She became the presenter to some national and international level of conferences and a symposium, namely NELTAL, INASYSCON, CONAPLIN, AISOFOLL, IETA, TEFLIN and CamTESOL Conference. Widya Caterine Perdhani is an English lecturer in Universitas Brawijaya. She earned her undergraduate degree in English Department of Jambi University in 2007. She experienced in teaching English in some language centers, universities (Tridinanti University and Muhammadiyah Palembang University) for two years. She earned her master degree in English Education program of PGRI Palembang University in 2010. Now she is pursuing her doctorate degree in English Language Teaching in State University of Malang. She is currently teaching English in Universitas Brawijaya in the Faculty of Culture Studies. She became the presenter to some national and international level of conferences, namely Seminar Pendidikan Bahasa UPGRI, NELTAL, TEFLIN, and IETA.
