Ideas and Inspiration to Help You Innovate What a delightful book on how to come up with new and innovative solutions to a problem! I found this to be surprisingly compelling reading. For what could be a dry or technical subject, the author has brought it down to a personal level, easily engaging the reader. The very beginning of the book told brief stories of some famous polymaths--“Renaissance men”--and their broad abilities to synthesize ideas and solutions from their multiple areas of expertise. In another author's hands, this would have read like a high school term paper, but this author made it interesting. The middle section of the book focuses on you developing your ideas. First, he looks at the building blocks of creativity and then gives 6 tactics to help you achieve rapid idea generation. This book certainly got me thinking, and I know I will be referring to it again when I want to shake things up in my own writing and for my businesses. The last quarter of the book looks specifically at people in the arts, sciences, and business who are creative thinkers. After having read the middle portion of the book, you can understand and appreciate better how these people had used the creativity building blocks and followed some tactics that the author encourages us to do. If you are in a business or have a personal hobby that requires creativity and innovation, you may very well find this book to be helpful. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
