श्री. विश्वास पाटील यांना अत्यंत प्रतिष्ठेच्या समजल्या जाणाऱ्या इंदिरा गोस्वामी राष्ट्रीय साहित्य पुरस्काराने सन्मानित करण्यात आले आहे. त्यासाठी त्यांचे साहित्यिक योगदान, विशेषत: ‘झाडाझडती’ आणि अलीकडच्या ‘नागकेशर’ या कादंबरीचा प्रामुख्याने विचार करण्यात आला आहे. नोव्हेंबर २०१९मध्ये पासीघाट (अरुणाचल प्रदेश) येथे झालेल्या तेवीस भारतीय भाषांच्या बहुभाषिक संमेलनाचे अध्यक्षपद त्यांनी भूषविले आहे. त्यांच्या कादंबऱ्यांची अनेक भारतीय भाषांमध्ये भाषांतरे होऊन त्या जनप्रिय ठरल्या आहेत. त्यांच्या ‘पानिपत’, ‘महानायक’ आणि ‘संभाजी’ या कादंबऱ्या इंग्रजीमध्ये वेस्टलँड अ‍ॅमेझॉन कंपनीने तर ‘झाडाझडती’ (A DIRGE FOR THE DAMMED) ही कादंबरी हॅचेट या कंपनीने प्रकाशित केली आहे. त्यांना या आधी केंद्रीय साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, प्रियदर्शनी नॅशनल अ‍ॅवॉर्ड, गोव्याचा नाथमाधव पुरस्कार, कोलकात्याचा भारतीय भाषा परिषदेचा साहित्य पुरस्कार असे साठहून अधिक साहित्य पुरस्कार गेल्या बत्तीस वर्षांत प्राप्त झाले आहेत. पाटील यांच्या साहित्यगुणांचा गौरव श्री. सुनील गंगोपाध्याय, श्री. अमिताव घोष, इंदिरा गोस्वामी अशा राष्ट्रीय व आंतरराष्ट्रीय कीर्तीच्या साहित्यकांनी जाहीरपणे केला आहे. राज्य शासनाच्या सेवेत असताना आय.ए.एस. अधिकारी या नात्याने त्यांनी शिर्डी येथील आंतरराष्ट्रीय विमानतळाचे अनेक वर्षं रखडलेले बांधकाम चौदा महिन्यांच्या अवधीत अग्रक्रमाने पार पाडले. मराठी व इंग्रजी भाषेतील एक उत्तम वक्ते म्हणून श्री. पाटील यांनी लौकिक मिळविला आहे. शिवाय दिल्ली, लखनऊ, कोलकाता, भुवनेश्वर आदी शहरांतील लिटररी फेस्टिवल व इतर साहित्यविषयक समारंभांमध्ये आपल्या साहित्याचे व भाषेचे दर्शन घडविले आहे.
