One White Rabbit: A Counting Book is a delightful introduction to numbers and counting uses characters and object from Lewis Carroll's iconic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. From 'One White Rabbit for Alice to follow' to 'Five grins from the Cheshire Cat', and 'Nine tarts made by the Queen', this is a really charming book.
The traditional illustrations are by Sir John Tenniel, supplemented by additional pictures in Tenniel's style and beautiful Victorian-style decorative motifs. Lewis Carroll was the pen-name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Born in 1832, Dodgson was a mathematics tutor at Christ Church College, Oxford, where he met Alice Liddell, daughter of the dean, and inspiration for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The book and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, have delighted children all over the world for 150 years. As well as these titles, the Macmillan Alice range includes titles for all ages from The Nursery Alice all the way up to our beautiful gift edition, The Complete Alice.
Sir John Tenniel was already a renowned cartoonist when he was invited to produce illustrations for Alice. His exquisite engravings are among the most iconic and best loved images in the world.
