On Multiple Selves refutes the idea that a human being has a single unified self. Instead, David Lester argues, the mind is made up of multiple selves, and this is a normal psychological phenomenon. Lester expands on his earlier work on the phenomenon, illuminating how a âmultiple-self theory of the mindâ is critically necessary to understanding human behavior. Most of us are aware that we have multiple selves. We adopt different âfaçade selvesâ depending on whom we are with. David Lester is distinguished professor of psychology at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. He serves on the editorial board of numerous professional journals, including Omega, Crisis, and Death Studies. He is the author or editor of nearly one hundred books, including Suicide and the Holocaust, Understanding Suicide, and Understanding and Preventing Suicide.
