Ivan Aleksandrovich Goncharov (1812–1891) was a significant Russian novelist and a quintessential figure of 19th-century Russian literature. Born in Simbirsk (now Ulyanovsk), Goncharov hailed from a merchant family and embarked upon a career in civil service after completing his education. However, his true legacy was solidified through his literary contributions.
