This book discusses and identifies the modernizing trends, which have changed Southeast Asian countries in varying ways. This book concludes by profiling the characteristics of Southeast Asian modernity.

Terence Chong is a sociologist and Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. He is editor of the Trends in Southeast Asia series and co-editor of SOJOURN: Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia.His research interests are globalization, the Southeast Asian middle class and civil society, and the sociology of culture.
