About the author

Elaine L. Orr authors four mystery series and a mix of reflective fiction and nonfiction. The Jolie Gentil cozy mystery series has twelve n books, and Behind the Walls was short-listed for the 2014 Chanticleer Mystery and Mayhem Awards. The three-book River's Edge series is set in Iowa, and Demise of a Devious Neighbor was short-listed for the same award in 2017.

The Logland series began with Tip a Hat to Murder in 2016, and features a small Illinois college town. In the three-book Family History Series, Digger solves crimes of old from a modern perspective. It is set in Western Maryland, and The Unscheduled Murder Trip received and Indie B.R.A.G Medallion in 2021.

Elaine also writes plays and novellas, including the one-act play, Common Ground published in 2015. Her novella, Falling into Place, tells the story of a family facing the results of an Iowa father’s World War II experience; they do so with humor and grace. Another novella, Biding Time, was one of five finalists in the National Press Club's first fiction contest, in 1993. She is especially proud of In the Shadow of Light, which features two ten-year old girls in different circumstances, both affected by the U.S. policy of separating parents and children at the U.S.-Mexico border. Gentle fiction about a difficult topic.

Elaine grew up in Maryland and moved to the Midwest in 1994. She is a member of Sisters in Crime and the Indiana Writers’ Center.
