À propos de cet e-book

Our society depends heavily on metals. They are ubiquitous construction materials, critical interconnects in integrated circuits, common coinage materials, and more. Excitingly, new uses for metals are emerging with the advent of nanoscience, as metal crystals with nanoscale dimensions can display new and tunable properties. The optical and photothermal properties of metal nanocrystals have led to cancer diagnosis and treatment platforms now in clinical trials, while, at the same time, the ability to tune the surface features of metal nanocrystals is giving rise to designer catalysts that enable more sustainable use of precious resources. These are just two examples of how metal nanocrystals are addressing important social needs.

À propos de l'auteur

Kallum Michael Koczkur is a scientist with extensive experience in NP synthesis, assembly, and characterization. He received a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Guelph in 2011 following an M.Sc. in Materials Science and Electrochemistry from Lakehead University in 2006 and an HBSc in Organic Chemistry from Lakehead University in 2003. He conducted postdoctoral research at Indiana University—Bloomington from 2015 to 2018 before starting as an Assistant Research Professor at the Institute for Micromanufacturing at Louisiana Tech University.

Sara Elizabeth Skrabalak is a James H. Rudy Professor at Indiana University—Bloomington. She received her B.A. in chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis in 2002. She then moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she completed her Ph.D. in chemistry in 2006. After postdoctoral research at the University of Washington—Seattle, she began on the faculty at Indiana University—Bloomington. She is a recipient of both NSF CAREER and DOE Early Career Awards. She is a 2012 Research Corporation Cottrell Scholar, a 2013 Sloan Research Fellow, a 2014 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar, and 2017 Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellows. In 2014, she received the ACS Award in Pure Chemistry and, in 2017, was the recipient of the Frontiers in Research Excellence & Discovery Award from Research Corporation. She is an Editor for Nanoscale and Nanoscale Advances, both journals of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Her research group specializes in nanomaterial design and synthesis for a diversity of applications.
