(Chicago) Esther Vaughan has disappeared. Her roommate, Quinn is at first concerned, then several things happen that has Quinn angry. Evidently, before she disappeared, she had placed an ad in the paper for a new roommate. She had also withdrawn $1500 from her bank. And than Quinn learns that Esther had made arrangements to have their locks changed. So Quinn wasn't always a good roommate ... but then she discovers that Esther's previous roommate had died of an allergic reaction to eating something that Esther had prepared. So is Esther planning on having Quinn killed? Has she ever known who Esther really was? (Michigan) A mysterious woman shows up in a small cafe where Alex Gallo is a dishwasher. He is immediately drawn to the young woman. As they become friends, Alex thinks that this is the woman for him. But there are dark secrets everywhere. I have to confess, I didn't think I would ever get through this entire book. It started out so slowly and although there is some suspense, this was not what I had experienced reading this author's other books. I almost gave up .... but at 80% (kindle) I sat up and took notice. Things were happening.. beginning to make some sort of sense. The suspense ratcheted up by leaps and bounds. And it was a race to get to the final chapter to see how it would end. My recommendation is .... read this book. But be prepared to take it nice and easy as the story builds and you get to know the characters. It's all well worth it in the end. Many thanks to the author / Harlequin (UK) Limited / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I really want to lke this book, but no. Too many unnecessary and wordy details had me skipping paragraphs and the story dragged along much too slowly. And to add to that misery is a really not too bright character. Granted that IS how the character is supposed to be. But please - someone goes missing, isn't the first thing you do call their cell? I'm sorry. Just not credible. I wish I had better things to say.
